The Taberna del Alabardero opened its doors in 1974 by Don Luis de Lezama. This project of social initiative became from the first moment the epicenter of Spanish cultural and political transition. In addition, the Alabardero became a meeting point for diplomats, politicians, journalists, socialists, artists, and philosophers.
Among its illustrious visits the Alabardero has that of the Spanish Royal Family and that of Popes John Paul II and Benedict XVI.
Its walls are full of history, memories, and photos that display the last forty-five years of Spanish history.
In addition to the Washington DC location, the Taberna del Alabardero has other venues in Seville and Marbella; and recently also in the Madrid town of Pozuelo.
